Fruits And Vegetables Affected By Pesticides
The USDA and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) provide all kinds of useful information to consumers. When it comes to health and wellness, citizens should be aware that pesticides used in the growing of fruits and vegetables can be present when you eat the food. 73 percent of conventionally grown fruits and vegetables contained at least one pesticide residue, and likely contained multiple residues.
These fruits and vegetables had the most residue:
* Apples
* Bell Peppers
* Celery
* Cherries
* Grapes (imported)
* Nectarines
* Peaches
* Pears
* Potatoes
* Red Raspberries
* Spinach
* Strawberries
These had the least amount of residue:
* Asparagus
* Avocados
* Bananas
* Broccoli
* Cauliflower
* Corn (sweet)
* Kiwi
* Mangos
* Onions
* Papaya
* Pineapples
* Peas (sweet)
What do you do. Look for organic produce (if you can afford it), wash your produce, and look for a produce wash that uses natural substances called surfactants that will attach to oils (many pesticides are derived from petrochemicals) so that they can be rinsed away.
