Six Figure Retirement Costs
Fidelity Investments projects that retirements costs for couples without employer paid health insurance will need about $200,000 to take care of health insurance needs past the age of 65. Less than half of retired Americans have company paid health insurance.
Fidelity said the 2006 estimate is up 5.3 percent from 2005 and has increased an average 5.8 percent annually since the financial services company began its retiree healthcare-cost index in 2002.
"All Americans, even those as far as 20 years away from retirement, should be calculating and factoring lifelong healthcare expenses into their overall financial planning," said Brad Kimler of Fidelity Employer Services Company.
